In Ireland, the government's refusal rate for Palestinian student study visas surged significantly, leaving dozens of scholars—including top Gaza University graduate Mahmoud Aldaya—trapped under military bombardment in Gaza City. Authorities cite missing paperwork like certified bank statements, unproven intentions to return home, and financial minimums—strict requirements that are nearly impossible to fulfill given Gaza's destroyed banking, educational, and postal infrastructure. Legal challenges are underway in Irish courts, while similar bureaucratic barriers, including mandatory biometric collection and visa suspensions, leave hundreds more scholars stranded in Canada, Belgium, and the United States
